New York registered another significant offshore wind milestone on October 23 when NYSERDA finalized contracts for the state’s first two offshore wind projects, Empire Wind (816 MW, Equinor US Holdings, Inc.) and Sunrise Wind (880 MW Sunrise Wind LLC, a joint venture of Ørsted A/S and Eversource Energy) for nearly 1,700 megawatts of clean and affordable renewable energy. In addition, NYSERDA submitted a comprehensive filing to the New York State Department of Public Service (DPS): Launching New York’s Offshore Wind Industry: Phase 1 Report, which describes how these two projects exceeding expectations for competitive pricing. The projects have an average all-in development cost of $83.36 per megawatt hour (2018 dollars) with an expected average OREC cost of $25.14 per megawatt hour. The average bill impact for residential customers will be less than a dollar per month per customer - approximately $0.73. The report also highlights the projects significant commitments to economic development, job creation, and transparency.

NYSERDA expects to issue its second offshore wind solicitation before the end of 2020.
